Recently in social studies I have:
Learned about globalization.
Globalization is a trend towards greater interconnectedness and interdependence of the world.
There are eight types of globalization:
Social: the process by which peoples lifestyle is spread over global networks.
Example: Facebook, Twitter, global fest, Olympics.
Geographical: borderless world. Where borders do not matter.
Example: European Union. You can cross around Europe without a passport.
Economic: process of expanding the worlds' trade networks.
Example: Canada ’s' largest trading partner is the USA over 75% of exports go to the United States .
Political: political decisions and actions are becoming international. (Government)
Example: Canadian soldiers participate in the United Nations peace keeping missions around the world.
Ecological: single ecosystem
Financial: stock market prices, oil/gas prices...
Cultural: TV, religion, products, books…
Technological: internet, e-mail, cell phones, facebook, twitter…
We have also learned about the Beothuk, hunters of the plains, and the six nation’s confederacy.
They were the first people within Canada before the Europeans came and invaded their land.
Beothuk: (1829)
Hunter gatherers that lived in Newfoundland . They ate fish and birds from the sea. They bartered with the Europeans that came to Newfoundland . As more Europeans came there was very little land for the Beothuk. Two other groups were also taking over their land: the Inuit from the north and the Mi’kmaq from the south. The Beothuk began to starve so they raided European camps for supplies. This led to a fight between the two. Eventually starvation, use of weapons diseases and decline in natural resources led to the death of the Beothuk
Hunters of the plains:
Five tribes on Canadian parries. They were all about finding and hunting buffalo. As Europeans move west they met up with the plains hunters. They traded guns and furs. They were very dependent on each other. *(interdependence) with the guns there it meant more hunting and also meant that Europeans could kill buffalo that were coming on “their land” eventually the buffalo became extinct. With no buffalo, the traditional ways of living for the plains people was not possible. So they all dies off.
Six nation’s confederacy:
Six groups of Iroquois people joined together. They worked together democratically which meant that their leaders were elected) they made the unwritten constitution: ‘the great law of peace’. When the Europeans came they traded iron, pots and more with the six nation’s confederacy and in return they were taught Ideas of equality, freedom of speech and rights of individuals. (Knowledge)
Reflection:
We have:
Done an “introductory writing assignment” which consisted of an: about me, what I have learned in social studies and I had a “source” (a cartoon or a picture) we had to write about the picture and what it represented and stated. I have completed all of my homework. I understand social globalization the most, like Olympics, global fest, facebook, and twitter. I have some difficulty with some of the types of globalization. My goals in social studies is to get an acceptable mark in my class higher than 65% and also to keep up with my homework.
Assignment:
This image represents many types of globalization but falls directly into one category. Social globalization. On this website people’s lifestyle is spread through wall posts. Messages and more. From all around the world people can go on facebook and talk to anybody. It is also under technological globalization. Seeming how it is on the internet. It is basically another type of e-mail. You can find out a lot of things on the website
